Eid Al Adha :The Sacrifice Day
Eid Al Adha
During an Islamic year, Muslims celebrate not just one Eid but two: one after the blessed month of Ramadan (Eid ul-Fitr – small Eid) and the other during Qurbani (Eid ul-Azha ). The second of these two Eids is the holiest time of year for Muslims, as it coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage.
Do Shias celebrate Eid Al Adha?
A common misinterpretation about the Shias is that they don’t celebrate Eid al Adha. The simple answer is Shia celebrate all commanded festivals and rituals from the Quran, as well as those recommended by our Prophet and his Family (peace be upon them all) .
Martyrdom of Hazrat Muslim bin Aqeel a day before Eid al Adha
The Governor of Kuffa ordered and gave greedy offers to the people of Kuffa, So the people of Kuffa left the Hazrat Muslim bin Aqeel and, on the order of able Ziyad Hazrat Muslim was killed brutally. They cut off the Holy head and tied the body into ropes. This saddest event took place just one day before the Eid al adha. This is the second reason Shia celebrate Eid al adha with simplicity.
It is said by Imam Jafar e Sadiq (as) that “our shias and followers are always with us , they celebrate with us and they grief with us.”
The Sacrifice’s Story:
According to correct or rather trustworthy traditions, the Sixth Holy Imam, Imam Jafar as-Sadiq, said: Archangel Gabriel appeared to Ibrahim on the 8th of Zu’l-hajj at the time of wall (the decline of the Sun from its peak) and said, “O Ibrahim, get water for yourself and your family.”
There was no water between Makkah and ‘Arafat at the time. So Archangel Gabriel brought Ibrahim to Mina, where he prayed Zuhr and Asr, followed by Maghrib and Isha, and Fajr. They set off for ‘Arafat when the sun rose, stopping in Marwa. They prayed Zuhr and Asr with one Azaan but distinct Iqamah at the Masjid of ‘Arafat location during Zawaal.
Then He had Him stand in the middle of an empty room and instructed him to repent for his faults. (Eteraaf) and to comprehend his hajj practices. Hazrat Ibrahim (as) was ordered to remain there until nightfall. He was then directed to continue to Mashar-al-haram. When He arrived at Mashar, He offered Maghrib and Isha prayers with one Azaan and two distinct Iqamah.

He spent the night there, and when he concluded his morning prayers the next day, Archangel Gabriel showed him the place and led him to Mina, where He was instructed to toss pebbles at Al-Jamarah Aqba, where Satan initially appeared. He was then trained in the slaughter rite.
Ibrahim went to sleep that night in Masharul haram, pleased and satisfied. He had a dream that he was killing his son. He had brought his wife and children on hajj. When they arrived in Mina, they stoned Satan jointly. Then he told Sarah to go to Kaba while He stayed with the boy.
Then He brought His son to the center of Satan and addressed the subject with him, as stated in the Qur’an: “O my son! I’m sure I saw in a dream that I should sacrifice you; analyse what you see.” (37:102)
The pious son instructed His father to finish the job He had begun.
“O, my father!” He said. Do what you are commanded; if Allah wills, you will find me among the patient.” (37:102)
So they both bowed to Allah’s will and then Satan arrived in the shape of an old man.
“Where are you going this boy, Ibrahim?” enquired Satan.
“I want to sacrifice him,” Hazrat Ibrahim (as) answered.
“SubhanAllah (Allah be praised)!” “You’re going to slay this Child who has never done the slightest sin?” screamed Satan.
“But my Lord has told me to do it,” Hazrat Ibrahim (as) explained.
“Your Lord forbids it!” Satan was lying. “You were duped by Satan!”
“Fie on you!” said Ibrahim, “The One who has conferred Prophethood on me has directed me to do so.” And I got the Divine Command from the same Angel whose voice I recognize. “There is no doubt about that.”
“By Allah,” Satan said, “no one but Satan made such a command.”
“By Allah,” Hazrat Ibrahim (as) responded, “I do not intend to discuss anything with you.” And he resolved to carry out his assignment.
“O Ibrahim, you are the leader of all human, and people follow your example,” Satan declared as a final effort. If you do such an atrocity, everyone will be forced to massacre their children.
Hazrat Ibrahim remained silent. He talked about it with his kid. When both consented to carry out the Divine Command, the son instructed his father to cover his face and bind his wrists and legs. Hazrat Ibrahim (as) stated that he had the option of killing him or tying his wrists and ankles. But he was unable to find the strength to accomplish both. So he spread a skin out and made the boy lie down on it.
He thrust the knife into his throat and raised his head to the sky. Then he gripped the knife with all his might. The knife was twisted by Archangel Gabriel so that the unsharpened edge did not cut the throat. Hazrat Ibrahim(as) realized He was holding the knife incorrectly. He fixed it and performed the deed again. Archangel Gabriel wielded the knife once again.
This happened several times. Finally, Archangel Gabriel appeared from the mountainside, plucked the kid from Ibrahim’s grasp, and replaced him with the ram. “You have realized your desire,” a voice from the direction of Khaif Mosque said. In this way, we reward good servants. This was a thorough evaluation!”
Meanwhile, the Devil visited Ibrahim’s wife while the Ka’bah was still far away. He inquired about the individual he had met in Mina. It was her spouse, she claimed.
“And the boy?” he inquired.
“He’s my son,” she explained.
“I saw that man lay down the youngster and was holding a knife ready to butcher him,” Satan stated.
“You’re lying!” Sarah said, “Ibrahim is the kindest person; how can he butcher his own son?”

“By the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth, Lord of this Great House!” I witnessed the guy laying down his son and preparing the knife to butcher him.”
“However, why?” Sarah enquired
“He believes that his Lord has instructed him to do so.”
“Then he must obey his Lord’s orders,” she explained.
She dashed towards Mina after finishing the ceremonies. “O Allah!” she exclaimed repeatedly, her hands on her head. Do not punish me for what I did to Isma’il’s mother!”
When she came to Ibrahim to enquire about her kid, she was astounded to discover the Knife’s scar. She became ill and was taken to the celestial home.
The narrator inquired with Imam regarding the location of Ibrahim’s killing.
“Near the center of Al-Jamarah,” the Imam said, “and the ram dropped from heaven on the mountain to the right of Mina Mosque.” It used to graze there at night.”
“What shade was it?” asked the narrator
“Black and white,” Imam said, “with huge horns.”
“The killing son” explained:
According to reliable news sources, the Holy Prophet declared, “I am the offspring of two slaughterers.”
“The two “slaughtering” were Isma’il, Ibrahim’s son, and ‘Abdullah, Abdul Muttalib’s son,” Imam stated. Isma’il was the patient who delivered the good news to Ibrahim. Ibrahim informed his father one day when he was old enough to go with him that he had dreamed he was slaying him. “So I’d like you to consider it and make a choice.”
“Dear father,” Isma’il responded, “go with your mission.” He did not ask him to carry out what he had seen in his dream.
“You will find me among the patients.”
When Ibrahim took him to be slaughtered, the Almighty ransomed him with a black ram that could only graze and eat at night. It can see and move in the dark. It could also talk, and it had grazed in the gardens of Paradise for forty years. It did not emerge from the womb. The Almighty had commanded ‘Be’ and it one to come into being, so it would become Isma’il’s ransom one day. And all the sacrifices made in Mina until the Resurrection Day shall be Isma’il’s ransom. This is what “two slaughtering” means.
The incident included Isma’il, but when Ishaq was born, he also aspired to be a sacrificial ram like his brother. He intended to be patient and achieve a high position like Isma’il. Because the Almighty realized he was honest in his intentions, he gave the Angels the name ‘zabih’ (slaughtered one). According to reputable sources, this explanation comes from Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (as).
